Returning director Don Michael Paul hinted at it in a series of Instagram posts, now Tremors star Michael Gross has confirmed it: the franchise is returning to South Africa for Tremors 6.
Gross revealed in September 2016 that Tremors 6 was going into production, with Don Michael Paul posting photos from a location scout at Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve in November.
As is now a Tremors tradition, Michael Gross returned to Facebook last night to announce that he’ll be flying to South Africa next week alongside Tremors 5 co-star, Jamie Kennedy.
Not much else is known about the film, apart from the casting of two more actors, Tanya van Graan as Dr Rita Sims and Greg Kriek as Dutch.
Once again, the original creative team behind the first four films and the original TV series, Stampede Entertainment, are so far missing from the announcement.
There’s still no more word on the rival TV series being developed by Blumhouse and Kevin Bacon for Amazon, but while the new film is likely to be released in late 2017, it’s unlikely the mini-series will make it to the streaming service until 2018 at the earliest.
(It’s perhaps worth noting that the news broke in the week the original Tremors movie celebrates its 27th anniversary – it was released in US cinemas on 19 January 1990…)
